Asper by Rhonda Smiley
254 pages

I haven’t been this enamored of a YA fantasy for a good while.
Asper is beautifully written. Although it’s Rhonda Smiley’s debut novel, she’s done plenty of screenwriting in the past, and it shows. The book is positively cinematic, richly described, and just about impossible to put down.

All You Squeed Is Love

Asper

“Their needs were simple. Find flesh, eat flesh. Dead or alive, fresh or rancid.”

If you’re looking for a book on mycology, you’re in the wrong place. This fast-paced YA fantasy novel takes some standard fairy tale tropes and reworks them in a unique new world. Milla is terrible at magic. It’s all right, though, since she grows up in pastoral anonymity.

ASPER - Author Interview with Rhonda Smiley

Hi Rhonda Smiley, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

Sure. I’m Rhonda Smiley, and I was born in Montreal, Canada, but moved to Hollywood to live with my dad and two (of my three) siblings when I was 12. I now live in Glendale, California with my partner, Jim, and our terrier-mix, Jojo. I won’t say which, but one of them is a great listener, rarely interrupts, and always agrees with me. I’m addicted to puzzles, spider solitaire, crosswords, and Sudoku, and don’t feel guilty about it anymore since researchers say these are brain-builders, not time-wasters. My favorite pastime is walking, though. Through neighborhoods, parks, mountains, you name it. If I could walk and write at the same time, I would.

May 22, 2017 by Heidi Angell

Hello Lovelies,

We have a fun interview with multi-genre author Rhonda Smiley. She discovered her passion for writing while majoring in Film Production at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Since then, she has written for many shows, including Ninja Turtles, Tarzan, Born Free, Totally Spies, and Kuu Kuu Harajuku. When not writing for television, she’s tackling her own projects, like her debut novel, Asper.

TMNT: The Ultimate Visual History
If you're a TMNT fan, this is the book to have. It's not only incredibly creative and beautiful, it contains everything you'd ever want to know about those green guys. And because I was lucky enough to be the story editor/writer for TMNT: The Next Mutation, Andrew Farago, the author of this book, requested an interview with me. Me. Weird. But as a thank you, I got a copy of the book, and I was flabbergasted by all the visual goodies inside.
